The new report suggests that Google is apparently testing to bring in latest features for Gmail web interface featuring more of white spaces and the absence of the new tabs feature. The mails classification icons which are reflected as tabs and the menu at the left side are now hidden. Not just this, the forthcoming version of Gmail includes Hangouts chat menu placed at the top right with a drop down list of chat contact and a big Search box in the middle.

Scrolling down on the right hand side towards the bottom, there are email and reminder creation buttons that are round in shape and are created to enable users to store numerous unfinished messages or reminders.

Coming to the inbox, Gmail developers are also trying to develop a new feature called Pinned, which will allow users to keep important emails front and center at the top of their inbox. This feature includes an enclosure that will instantly shift emails back to their original place with a single tap—perfect for viewing incoming mails instantly.

However, nothing is confirmed from the Google side about the release of this leaked new interface.

Rubik’s Cube invention Google Doodle

Today 19th May 2014 Google is celebrating one of the greatest toy inventions ever. The  Rubik’s Cube invention was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik. Erno Rubik was a Hungarian inventor, architect and professor of architecture.

unnamed

Erno Rubik was best known for the invention of mechanical puzzles including the Rubik’s Cube Invention, the Rubik’s Magic 3-D combination puzzle, Rubik’s Magic: Master Edition and the Rubik’s Snake. However none of these became so popular as the ordinary Rubik’s cube invention that entertained and fascinated a whole generation.

Today’s Rubik’s Cube invention is a playable game on the Google homepage and is an exact replica of the Rubik’s Cube Invention except that you can play it virtually on your computer. In the past Google have been accused of creating some time wasters, like the Pac-Man game they had on the 21st of May 2010 some news sites reported that the game cost the world 4.82 million of productive economic hours which were wasted on people playing the game.

I think that if the Rubik’s Cube invention is going to be measured similarly the Rubik’s Cube Invention game is going to win hands down. The game is a bit tougher to play and you have to order all the same colors of blocks together which might take far longer to do than to play the Pac-Man game, nonetheless I am thrilled that Google have once again upped the level of entertainment and insight their doodles bring!

If you remember the Rubik’s Cube Invention and if it’s from your era you will not be able to resist the Rubik’s Cube Invention and if you are like me you will not give up on playing the game until you have at least once completed the online version!

How to play the Rubik’s Cube Invention Google Doodle

The aim of the game for those who don’t know is to have all the blocks on the Rubik Cube have the same 9 colors on all the sides of the Rubik Cube, you do this by moving the colors one at a time either up or down, left or right until you have all the colors the same.

For more information about the Rubik’s Cube Invention we highly recommend that you visit the Wikipedia site for a complete overview of the Rubik’s Cube Invention.

Whatsapp Now Has Half A Billion Users! Saw Fastest Growth In India #Android

WhatsApp, the instant messaging service now has 500 million active users across the world, beating even Facebook by length to become fastest growing service ever when it comes to rate of user acquisition.

whatsapp

In an official blog the company on Wednesday also revealed that its users share 700 million photos and 100 million videos each day. On April 1 the company also declared that its users have shared 64 billion messages within 24 hours, creating a new record.

“Thank you all, half a billion people throughout the world are now regular and active users of WhatsApp,” the post read. “In the last few months, we’ve grown fastest in countries like Brazil, India, Mexico, and Russia, and our users are also sharing more than 700 million photos and 100 million videos every single day. We could go on, but for now, it’s more important that we get back to work – because here at WhatsApp, we’re just getting started.”

WhatsApp is way ahead in the race than its owner Facebook by acquiring 419 million users in the first four years after its launch whereas the social networking giant which bought instant messenger for whopping $19 billion had 145 million users, according to ReadWrite, a technology news website.

Jan Koum, the CEO of WhatsApp said to Recode, a website that includes tech news, out of these 500 million users, about 48 million users are Indians, which is also the fastest growing user base for WhatsApp. In Brazil, the messaging app has 45 million users. Alltogether, WhatsApp and Facebook now possess nearly 1.5 billion active users, offering the networking giant a huge reach, especially on Smartphones.

In spite of the large user base, it is still unclear that how Facebook can monetize WhatsApp. The messaging service doesn’t host any advertisement and both CEOs have mentioned that this is not going to change anytime soon.

“In spite of its rapid growth, we have not yet thought of monetizing WhatsApp,” Koum said to Recode. The main focus is on offering clean and usable instant messaging service, “there is no sufficient money and celebrities in the world to convince people to use worthless products. Nowadays people are so tech savvy. People look for a better user experience”, Koum added.

Koum also informed that the free voice call service on WhatsApp will make available to the users in the following months.

Track your Facebook ‘Friends’ precise location

The feature will be soon rolled out into iOS and Android app

Call it yet another attempt at intruding your privacy or a great way to advance social meet ups. Facebook has rolled out a new feature where your friends are notified when you are nearby or vice versa – enabling friends to catch up for a coffee or even watch a movie together.

Thankfully, the feature enables you to choose which one of your friends will get to know when you are nearby and how long they will remain notified, thereby enabling you to avoid those who you really want to.

The feature will be soon rolled out into iOS and Android app first in the United States. Facebook announced that the feature will only work if both – you and your friend – are on each other’s white list. “Sharing your location with Nearby Friends goes two ways — you and your friends both have to turn on ‘Nearby Friends’ and choose to share with each other to see when you are nearby. Your friends will only be able to see that you are nearby if you share this info with them and vice versa.”

2531557093

You can even turn on precise location which could come out really handy to trace a friend or a dear one in a really crowded market.

The travel-sharing feature allows a friend to notify you when they are traveling. “You’ll be able to see the city or neighbourhood they are in, including on their profile. When you see a friend visiting a place you’ve been, it’s the perfect opportunity to send a recommendation for a great restaurant,”

The market is already flooded with apps that enable you to share your location with friends.

Apple has its own app called Find My Friends.

That enables you to locate friends and family using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The free app uses Apple ID to sign into the iCloud and you can send your location details ( can be a temporary share with time limits) to those in your contacts or even send an email. “When your friend accepts your invitation using the Find My Friends app on their device, you can start following their location. Your friends can request to follow your location the same way.”

Similarly,  SocialRadar currently works on your iPhone and could soon be available on Android and Google Glass.

India’s Great Online Shopping Festival Is Back! #GOSF

Google, yet again launches its most anticipated ‘India’s Great Online Shopping Festival’ (GOSF) commencing on the 11th to the 13th of December this year. GOSF is a festival for online shoppers in India stretching out for three days inspired by a similar online consumer activity which is promoted by retailers in the US by giving good discounts to customers called the ‘Cyber Monday’, reports watblog.

540f32dA
Last year, Google had conducted a similar activity which created a lot of buzz in the online shopping sector, bringing together almost all e-commerce companies together in India.  It has been continuously innovating in India to make internet accessible to all and to get all shoppers under one single roof.
It is reported that, last year GOSF saw a massive user-engagement which had directly increased the sales and traffic of all major e-commerce portals which had associated with it. Contradicting to that, few users and certain publications have reported discrepancies such as discounts amounts not being significant, boring items and overcharging.
This year, Google announced that Intel, Airtel and PayTM will be its preferred partners and that it has lots of new e-commerce startups lined up with massive offers. Though Google is cutting the cheese in the internet sector with ideas like never before, it would only be admirable if it doesn’t repeat the performance it showcased like last year.

Google honours ‘Human Computer’ Shakuntala Devi with calculator-styled doodle on her 84th birth anniversary

On Monday, Google paid tribute through its doodle to Shakuntala Devi on her  84th birth anniversary with a calculator font and her picture.

1913524

Popularly known as the Human Computer for her awesome ability to mentally solve complex mathematical problems, Shakuntala Devi was included in The Guinness Book of World Records in 1982.

Without any formal education as a child, Shakuntala Devi had the ability to memorise and calculate numbers mentally an ability her circus artist father discovered when she was just three.

A prolific author as well, she wrote books like Fun with Numbers, Astrology for You, Puzzles to Puzzle You, and Mathablit.

In 1977 in USA, Shakuntala Devi competed with a computer to see who gives the cube root of 188132517 faster, she won.

On June 18, 1980, the Human computer, Shakuntala Devi demonstrated the multiplication of two 13-digit numbers 7,686,369,774,870 × 2,465,099,745,779 picked at random by the Computer Department of Imperial College, London. She answered 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730 in 28 seconds which is correct. This event is mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records.

With the ability to calculate the cube root of 61,629,875, and the seventh root of 170,859,375 without writing it down or using a calculator, Shakuntala Devi’s abilities were studied by Arthur Jensen, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley in 1988.

Jensen wrote in his report that the calculation was done and answers given even before he wrote the answer in his notebook. The findings were published in the academic journal Intelligence in 1990.

In April 2013, Shakuntala Devi passed away in a hospital in Bangalore from complications of the heart and kidneys at the age of 83.
