exploring the infinite possibility that the startup world offers.
Bollywood Superstar Ajay Devgan has invested in a venture named ‘ticketplease.com’ which as the name suggests is an online ticket booking websitePartnering another Bollywood top honcho Sanjay Dutt as a fellow-investor in the project, the startup caters tickets mainly for movies.
CEO and founder, Jimmy Mistry expressed his happiness about the involvement of the stars from the Indian film industry at the launching of the venture in 2011. The launch had garnered huge publicity; thanks to the presence of the entire lead-cast of the movie—Jatt Yamala Pagla Deewana.
2. The Label Corp—Suzanne, Malaika, Bipasha
The Label Corp, is a innovative startup that brings products that are handpicked by celebrities to raise the style quotient. The enterprise has Suzanne Khan, Malaika Arora Khan and Bipasha Basu as its investors. The celebrities extends their role by handpicking the merchandise for you in sections named home, closet and trunk. While Suzanne suggests things that you can buy to decorate your home, Malaika takes you to the world of fabric that can match every mood of yours. The Label Corp was founded by Preeta Sukhtankar, and is based out of Mumbai. It has raised series A funding from Kalaari Capital which was previously known as Indo-U.S. Venture Partners.
3. Yatra.com—Salman Khan
Yatra Online being a seven-year-old travel operator has roped in Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan as its investor in a rather interesting deal. It was a unique ad-for-equity deal where he had to enact in an advertisement for the blooming venture in exchange for 5 percent share in the same. The bollywood star would also be responsible for brand promotion and marketing.
Khan has been making hefty income by delivering hit movies and hosting television shows. He earns big bucks from endorsing products of Suzuki, Ranbaxy, Thumbs Up and History channel. Also, he became the brand ambassador for Britannia’s Tiger biscuit recently.
4. GroupHomeBuyers.com— Shilpa Shetty
The website GroupHomeBuyers is yet another innovative venture which helps families buy property at reduced prices as they are brought in bulk. Shilpa Shetty in partnership with her husband Raj Kundra has laid the foundation for this enterprise.
The web-portal, works on a simple formula wherein the prospective buyers register themselves with the website and wait until a minimum sizable number is reached. Upon crossing the pre-set mark, huge chunks of land are brought at an inexpensive price so that it can be later divided into smaller individual plots.
5. Qyuki.com—AR Rehman and Shekhar Kapur
Qyuki is a social networking media which is a platform for story writers to exchange their thoughts. The website was launched in 2012 by the talented duo—Shekhar Kapur and AR Rahman.Cisco had made an investment of 27 crores for this startup which makes it to own 17 percent share And on the other side Qyuki makes use of Cisco’s cloud infrastructure to build their site. 6. Babyoye.com— Karishma Kapoor
Yesteryear’s heartthrob, Karishma Kapoor also turns out to be the single largest stake holder with 26 percent share in Babyoye.com. The enterprise is into online sales of baby products with its founders Arunima Singhdeo and Sanjay Nadkarni holding majority stake. The startup recently raised 2.5 million from Accel partners and Tiger Global.
At the time of Babyoye’s inception, Karishma had said, “Babyoye delivers to 500 cities in India. I really believe in its vision of giving babies the right start in life”.
7. Dance with Madhuri— Madhuri Dixit Nene
Arguably one of the best dancers that India has ever seen, Madhuri Dixit has invested in a field of her passion—dancing. She has made the best use of the connected world by opening a virtual dance academy named invitingly as ‘Dance with Madhuri’. She also brings the physical fitness point of view to her new venture where she promises that you can dance your way to better health.
