Special pink roofed auto for women commuters

In the wake of rising crime against Women in Delhi/NCR region, where thousands of women commuters commute daily from nearby regions, the Gurgaon police has initiated a safety drive for women by launching pink-roofed auto rickshaws plying for women only.

At first stage, 22 pink roofed auto rickshaws have been implied as a pilot project in the city.

Gurgaon Traffic Police Inspector, Anil Kumar, said that the women are often victims of eve-teasing when they are travelling and this service will avert such incidents.

“We have launched this drive for the safety of the women. Women are often mistreated and eve-teased while travelling in an auto-rickshaw. But now they will have separate autos, only for women,” he said.

Last month’s rape of a physiotherapy student on a moving bus in the national capital New Delhi and her death in hospital have triggered unprecedented national outrage and demands for better safety measures in the country.

As a part of this drive, police have identified 22 auto drivers and verified their identification documents, providing them with special identity cards.

“In order to control crime against women, the Haryana police have taken this step. If the administration helps, then this could prove to be very successful. The police have put 22 autos and they have thoroughly verified all of them. If the passenger feels that they are being mistreated by any of the drivers, then they can dial 100 and lodge a complaint,” said Amit Kumar, auto driver.

Gurgaon has a poor public conveyance system and women, especially those without a personal vehicle find the newly introduced auto service a boon.

Ritu Singh, a passenger, said that the service would prove to be beneficial only when the auto drivers do not refuse to ferry the women passengers.

“It is a very good service and facilitates women who are coming from outside and who do not have their personal vehicles. However, the condition is that they should not refuse to take us to our destinations,” she said.

4. American Express

The company which started Indian operations in 1921 offers online access to its world-class Card, Financial, Insurance and Travel services and its  Gurgaon branch in India has been bestowed as the sixth best place to work. It registers an employee force of 5,200 and a voluntary turnover of 15.00 percentage. It records a gender ratio of 1:1.33.

5. Marriott Hotel Mumbai

Marriott Hotel is the Indian division of the Marriott International hotel chain. It was established in 1998 and opened its first hotel, the Goa Marriott Resort, was the first Marriott hotel on 15th Dec 1999. It has hotels in Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad and Chennai.

In Marriott Hotel Mumbai there are around 2,433 employees working and the voluntary turnover is about 27.37 percent.

6. Classic Stripes

Classic Stripes was founded in the year 1987, the flagship company of Astarc Group with its headquarters in Mumbai, India is one of the largest manufacturers of Automobile graphics & Retail Engineering with technologically advanced facility in the World. It has employees of 459.

Classic Stripes today supplies its products to the best-known brands in India and abroad.

7. Scope International

Scope International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank, UK, is an integral part of the Bank’s strategy to consolidate and rationalise operations into Shared Services Centres. This is an ambitious project that the Bank undertook and today Scope International services all 56 countries of the Standard Chartered Group processing over 80 million transactions a year. It ranked as one of the best place to work in India in the year 2011. The numbers of employees stand at a striking 8,064.

8. Agile technologies
