இருட்டில் தமிழகம்: சென்னைக்கு வெளியே 7 மணிநேரம் மின்வெட்டு… உற்பத்தி பாதிப்பு, தொழிலாளர் பணியிழப்பு!

தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள மின் உற்பத்தி நிலையங்களில் உற்பத்தி குறைந்துள்ளதால் ஏழு மணி நேரம் வரை மின் வெட்டு அமலாக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த மின் வெட்டினால் மாநிலம் முழுவதும் தொழிற்சாலைகளில் உற்பத்தி பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கடந்த காலங்களில் அதிகபட்சம் மூன்று முதல் நான்கு மணிநேரமாக இருந்தது மின்வெட்டு. அதுவும் கோடையில்தான் இந்த மின்வெட்டு இருக்கும். மழைக் காலங்களில் ஒருபோதும் மின்வெட்டு அமல்படுத்தப்பட்டதில்லை. மழை, காற்று, இடி போன்ற இயற்கை தடைகளால் சில மணிநேரம் அவ்வப்போது மின்சாரம் நிற்கும்.

கடந்த 2010-ம் ஆண்டில் கூட மின்வெட்டு என்பது செப்டம்பர் மாதம் வரை நீடித்தது. மீண்டும் பிப்ரவரி 2011-ல் அமலுக்கு வந்தது.

ஆனால் இப்போதோ கோடை, மழைக்காலம் என எந்த பேதமும் இன்றி ஒரே சீராக தொடர்கிறது, மின்வெட்டு!

எவ்வளவுதான் உற்பத்தி?

தமிழக மின் நிலையங்களின் மூலம் 3,560 மெகாவாட், தனியார் மின் நிலையங்களால் 940 மெகாவாட், மரபுசாரா எரிசக்தி மூலம் 100, காற்றாலைகளால் 1,150, மத்திய தொகுப்பால் 2,060 மெகாவாட் மின்சாரம் கிடைத்துள்ளது. 800 மெகாவாட் மின்சாரம், தனியாரிடமிருந்து வாங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதுபோக 3,700 மெகாவாட் மின்சாரம் பற்றாக்குறையாக உள்ளது. இதனால் கடும் மின்வெட்டு அமலாக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

இதற்கு தமிழக மின்வாரியம் பல்வேறு காரணங்களை தெரிவித்து வருகிறது. நிலக்கரி இருப்பு குறைவு, பராமரிப்பு, நிலையங்களில் கோளாறு, தளவாட பொருட்களுக்கு பற்றாக்குறை என வரிசையாக காரணங்களை சொல்கிறார்கள்.

இதனால் சென்னை தவிர மாநிலத்தின் மற்ற பகுதிகள் பயங்கர மின் வெட்டை சந்தித்து வருகின்றன. கிட்டத்தட்ட 7 மணி நேரம் கரண்ட் இல்லை. மூன்று மணி நேரம் தொடர்ச்சியாகவும், பின்னர் 4 மணி நேரம் சுழற்சி முறையிலும் பவர் கட் ஆகிறது. குறிப்பாக வட தமிழகம் இதில் முடங்கிப் போயுள்ளது.

சென்னையில் தினமும் ஒரு மணி நேரமும் புறநகர்களில் 2 மணிநேரம் வரையிலும் மின்வெட்டு அமலாக்கப்படுகிறது.

தொழிற்சாலைகளில் பாதிப்பு:

இதனால் மிக அதிகமாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது கோவை, திருப்பூர், ஈரோடு, காஞ்சிபுரம், சென்னை, திருவள்ளூர் உள்ளிட்ட மாவட்டங்களில் உள்ள தொழிற்சாலைகள், தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள், வர்த்தக நிறுவனங்கள்தான்.

பெரும் பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால், பண்டிகை காலத்தில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும், நாள்காட்டி, ஆயத்த ஆடைகள், வீட்டு உபயோக பொருட்கள் உள்ளிட்டவற்றின் உற்பத்தி பணிகள், மிகுந்த பாதிப்பு அடைந்துள்ளன.

லாந்தருக்கு மாறிய கிராமங்கள்

இரவு நேரங்களில் நீண்ட நேரம் மின்சாரமே இல்லாமல் போவதால், வேறு வழியின்றி மீண்டும் கிராமப்புறங்களில் லாந்தர், சிம்னி விளக்குகள் புழக்கத்துக்கு வந்துள்ளன.

ஏற்கெனவே பாசன வசதியில்லாமல் விவாசயம் பட்டுப் போன நிலையில், மின்சாரமும் இல்லாமல் போனதால் விவசாய வேலைகளும் முடங்கியுள்ளன.

இதற்கிடையே, மின்வெட்டோடு, விரைவில் மின் கட்டணத்தையும் தமிழக அரசு உயர்த்தவுள்ளது.

மின் கட்டணத்தை உயர்த்தச் சொல்லி தமிழக மின் வாரியம் சார்பில் கடந்த 17ம் தேதி, தமிழ்நாடு மின்சார ஒழுங்குமுறை ஆணையத்திடம் மனு தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது. இது வரும் 25ம் தேதி, ஆணைய சேர்மன் கபிலன் முன் விசாரணைக்கு வருகிறது. மின் வாரியம் சார்பில் அதன் தலைவர் ராஜிவ் ரஞ்சன் ஆஜராகி விளக்கம் சொல்கிறார்.

அதற்குப் பிறகு மின் கட்டணத்தை அதிகரிக்க ஆணையம் அனுமதி வழங்கும் என்று தெரிகிறது.

மின்கட்டண உயர்வு தவிர்க்க முடியாதது என முன்கூட்டியே முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா விளக்கம் அளித்திருப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

மக்களை மெல்லக் கொல்லும் ஜெயலலிதா!

‘அரசாங்கம் வியாபாரியல்ல, வருமானம் போதவில்லை, நஷ்டம் வந்துவிட்டது என்று கூறி விலையை உயர்த்தி மக்களைச் சுரண்டுவதற்கு. அத்தியாவசியப் பொருள்கள் விலைகளை உயர்த்துவது மக்களை மெல்லக் கொல்வதற்கு சமம். இதை வன்மையாகக் கண்டிக்கிறோம். இந்தப் போக்கை கண்டித்து மக்கள் போராட்டத்தில் இறங்க வேண்டும்…’

-இதனை நாம் சொல்லவில்லை, பெட்ரோல் விலை உயர்வைக் கண்டித்து கேரள உயர்நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதிகள் கொதித்துப் போய்ச் சொன்ன தீர்ப்பு இது.

மக்களை மெல்லக் கொல்ல ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டாரோ ஜெயலலிதா என்ற கேள்விதான் இந்த இரு தினங்களும் மனதை அரித்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது.

ஜெயலலிதா ஆட்சிக்கு வந்து 6 மாதங்களாகின்றன. இந்த 6 மாதங்களில் அவர் உருப்படியாக எதையுமே செய்யவில்லை. அட, செய்யாமல் போனாலும் பரவாயில்லை… இருப்பதையும் நாசமாக்கி நஷ்டத்துக்கு மேல் நஷ்டத்தையே ஏற்படுத்தி வருகிறார்.

ஆட்சிக்கு வந்த கையோடு, வழக்கம்போல திமுக அரசு கஜானாவை சுரண்டிவிட்டுப் போய்விட்டது என்ற வசதியான காரணத்தைச் சொல்லி ரூ 4000 கோடிக்கு மேல் வரிகளை உயர்த்தினார். ஆண்டுக்கு ரூ 1600 கோடிக்கு மதுபான விலைகளை உயர்த்தினார்.

இப்போது தமிழக மக்கள் இதற்கு முன்பு பார்த்தும் கேட்டும் அறியாத அளவுக்கு ஏகத்துக்கும் பால் விலை, பஸ் கட்டணத்தை உயர்த்தியுள்ளார். குறிப்பாக பஸ் கட்டணம் 70 சதவீத அளவுக்கு உயர்த்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. போக்குவரத்துக்கு பஸ்களை மட்டுமே நம்பியுள்ள பெரும்பான்மை மக்கள், இனி மாற்று வாகனங்களை நாடியே தீர வேண்டிய கட்டாயத்துக்கு தள்ளப்பட்டுவிட்டனர்.

அடுத்து மின் கட்டணத்தை யூனிக்கு ரூ 1.50 அல்லது 2 வரை உயர்த்தத் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளதாக மின்வாரியும் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

இந்த மக்கள் விரோத செயல்கள் அனைத்துக்கும் மத்திய அரசு நிதி தரவில்லை என்றும், முந்தைய திமுக அரசு முக்கிய காரணம் என்றும் கூறி தப்பிக்கப் பார்க்கிறார்.

உண்மையில் மத்திய அரசு நிதியே தரவில்லையா?

இதோ இதே ஜெயலலிதா கடந்த ஜூன் மாதம் பிரதமர் மன்மோகன் சிங் மற்றும் திட்டக்கமிஷன் துணைத் தலைவர் மாண்டேக் சிங் அலுவாலியாவைச் சந்தித்த பிறகு கூறியதைப் படியுங்கள்:

“பிரதமர் மற்றும் திட்டக்கமிஷன் துணைத் தலைவருடனான சந்திப்பு பயனுள்ள வரையில் இருந்தது. நான் அலுவாலியாவிடம் ரூ 20000கோடிதான் தொகுப்பு நிதியிலிருந்து கேட்டேன், ஆனால் 23467 கோடி அளித்துள்ளார்கள். மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தரும் அறிவிப்பு இது. மத்திய அரசுக்கு நன்றி,” என்று பேசிய அதே ஜெயலலிதா வாய்தான் இப்போது மத்திய அரசைத் திட்டுகிறது!

அதாவது ஜெயலலிதா கேட்டதை விட ரூ 3467 கோடியை அதிகமாகவே கொடுத்துள்ளது மத்திய அரசு.

அடுத்து, எப்போதும் போல கண்ணை மூடிக் கொண்டு அவர் குற்றம்சாட்டுவது திமுகவை. அவர்கள் கஜானாவை துடைத்துவைத்துவிட்டார்களாம். கஜானா என்பது அவர்கள் வீட்டு பீரோவா என்ன, திறந்ததும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு போவதற்கு?

எந்தெந்த வழிகளில் பணத்தைச் சுரண்டி திமுகவினர் எடுத்துக் கொண்டார்கள் என்பதை இப்போது ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பிலிருக்கும் ஜெயலலிதா வெளிப்படையாக சொல்லலாமே. அவர்கள் மீது நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளலாமே… யார் தடுத்தார்கள்?

இந்த விலை உயர்வு தமிழக மக்கள் அனைவர் மனதிலும் ஒரு பெரும் சவுக்கடியாய் விழுந்திருப்பதை இந்த இரு தினங்களில் நேரில் பார்க்க முடிந்தது. ஜெயலலிதா என்ன செய்தாலும் சரிதான் என ஜால்ரா அடிக்கும் ஒரு கூட்டம் வழக்கம்போல, ‘ஆஹா… ஜெயலலிதாவின் துணிச்சல் யாருக்கு வரும்’ என்று ஈனஸ்வரத்தில் முனகாமல் இல்லை.

சம்பளம் அதிகமாகிவிட்டதாம்… அதனால் இந்த விலை உயர்வு சரிதான் என்று வெட்டி நியாயம் சொல்கிறது இந்தக் கூட்டம்.

தமிழகத்தில் வேலைக்குப் போய் சம்பளம் பெறும் குடும்பம் அதிகபட்சம் 9 சதவீதம் கூட இல்லை. இதில் அரசுத் துறை பணியாளர்கள் வெறும் 2 சதவீதத்துக்கும் குறைவு. அதாவது தமிழக மக்கள் தொகையான 7.5 கோடியில் 2 சதவீதம்!

இவர்களின் வாக்குகளை மட்டுமே மனதில் கொண்டு மேலும் மேலும் சம்பளத்தை ஏற்றி வந்திருக்கிறார்கள் கருணாநிதியும் ஜெயலலிதாவும். இதன் பலன், மாநிலத்தின் மொத்த வருவாயில் 98 சதவீதம், அரசு செலவுகள், பணியாளர் சம்பளம் மற்றும் இதர வகைக்கே போய்விடுகிறது. 98 சதவீத அரசு வருவாயை அரசுப் பணி்யாளர்களை போஷிப்பதற்கே செலவிடுகிறது அரசு. எஞ்சியுள்ள 2 சதவீத வருவாய் மற்றும் புதிய கடன்களே தமிழக மக்களின் நலப் பணிகளுக்குப் போகிறது.

இந்த உண்மையைக் கூட நாம் சொல்லவில்லை. கடந்த முறை ஆட்சியிலிருந்த ஜெயலலிதா, அரசுப் பணியாளர் விழாவில் சொன்னவை.

அரசுப் பணியாளர்களுக்கு கருணாநிதியும் ஜெயலலிதாவும் போட்டி போட்டுக் கொண்டு சம்பளத்தையும் இதர படிகளையும் உயர்த்துவது எதற்காக? ஒரு அரசுப் பணியாளருக்கு தேவைக்கும் அதிகமாகவே இன்று சம்பளம் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. மக்களிடம் வரிகளாகவும் மறைமுக வருமானங்களாகவும் சுரண்டுவதை அப்படியே அரசுப் பணியாளர்களுக்கு கொட்டுவதை நிறுத்தினாலே, பல ஆயிரம் கோடி மிச்சப்படுமே!

மக்கள் வரிப்பணத்தை மக்கள் நலத்திட்டங்களுக்கு முறையாகப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். மிகக் குறைந்த ஒரு பிரிவினருக்கு மட்டுமே முழு வருமானத்தையும் செலவழித்துவிட்டு, பற்றாக்குறைக்கு கடன் வாங்கி, அந்த சுமையையும் ஏழை எளிய மக்கள் மேல் சுமத்தும் போக்கை திமுக, அதிமுக என எந்த அரசும் நிறுத்துவதாகத் தெரியவில்லை.

இந்த விலை உயர்வை சம்பளம் பெறுவோர் சமாளிக்கக் கூடும்.  கூலிகள், ஏதோ ஒரு தொழில் செய்து பிழைப்பை ஓட்டும் சாமானியர் எப்படிச் சமாளிப்பார்கள் என்று யோசிக்க வேண்டாமா?

இன்னொன்று, தேவையற்ற இலவசங்கள்.

ஆடு மாடுகள், லேப்டாப், மிக்ஸி, கிரைண்டர், பேன்… இந்த ஓட்டு லஞ்சத்தை யார் கேட்டார்கள்? இந்த இலவசங்களைத் தருவதற்காக இருக்கிறவர்களை வதைப்பது ஏன்? நீதிமன்றம் மூலம் இதற்கொரு முற்றுப் புள்ளி வைக்க வேண்டும்.

போலீஸ்காரர்களுக்கு வருமானமில்லையா என்ன… எதற்காக அவர்களுக்கு மலிவு விலைக் கேண்டீன்கள்? இந்த தண்டச் செலவும் மக்கள் தலையில்தானே விடியும்!

பொதுத்துறை நிறுவனங்கள் நட்டத்தில் இயங்குவதாகவும், எந்த நேரத்திலும் செத்துப் போகும் நிலையில் இருப்பதாகவும் பிலாக்கணம் பாடியுள்ளார் ஜெயலலிதா.

இதற்கு முழுக்க முழுக்க ஆட்சியாளர்களே காரணம். பொதுத்துறை நிறுவன ஊழியர்களின் சோம்பேறித்தனம், மோசமான நடத்தை, யோக்கியமற்ற செயல்கள் போன்றவற்றை திமுக – அதிமுக அரசுகள் மாறி மாறி ஊக்கப்படுத்திக் கொண்டுதான் வந்துள்ளன. இந்த ஊக்கப்படுத்தல், கடைசியில் நிறுவனத்தையே விழுங்கும் அளவுக்குப் போயிருக்கிறது.

போக்குவரத்துத் துறையை சீரழித்ததில் கருணாநிதிக்கும் ஜெயலலிதாவுக்கும் சம பங்கு உள்ளது. 1996-97-ல் எம்ஜிஆர் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்தில் மட்டும் ரூ 900 கோடி நஷ்டம். இதற்குக் காரணம் என்னவென்று ஆராய்ந்தபோது, பழைய பஸ்களை சீர்படுத்தி ஓட்டுவதற்கு ஆகும் செலவு, உதிரி பாகங்கள் வாங்குவதில் அடிக்கப்படும் கொள்ளை போன்றவைதான் என்று தெரியவந்தது.

அதாவது ஒரு புதிய பஸ்ஸை வாங்கி ஓட்டுவதற்கு ஆகும் செலவை விட, பழைய பஸ்களை பராமரித்து ஓட்டும் செலவு அதிகம் என்று எம்ஜிஆர் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்தின் வரவு செலவை ஆராய்ந்தவர்கள் சொன்னார்கள். இருந்தும் ஏன் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகங்கள் புதிய பேருந்துக்கு மாறவில்லை? மாறிவிட்டால் எப்படி கொள்ளையடிக்க முடியும்… அதனால்தான் பழைய பஸ்களுக்கு செலவுக் கணக்குக் காட்டி, லாபத்தில் இயங்கும் நிறுவனங்களை நஷ்டக் கணக்கு காட்ட வைக்கின்றன.

அமரர் எம்ஜிஆர் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில் இந்தியாவிலேயே சிறந்த பஸ் போக்குவரத்து உள்ள மாநிலம் என தமிழகம் 3 முறை விருதுகளை வென்றது. அவர் மறைவுக்குப் பிறகு அந்த விருதை தொடர்ச்சியாகப் பெற்ற ஒரே மாநிலம் கர்நாடகம்தான்.

இன்று நாட்டின் மிகக் கேவலமான ஓட்டை உடைசல் பேருந்துகளைக் கொண்ட மாநிலங்களுள் ஒன்றாகத்தான் தமிழகம் திகழ்கிறது. நான்கு வழித்தடங்களில் நான்கு பேருந்துகள் இருந்தாலே ஒருவர் கோடீஸ்வரனாகிவிட முடியும். அப்படியொரு லாபகரமான வர்த்தகம் போக்குவரத்துத் துறை. ஆனால் 95 சதவீத போக்குவரத்தை கட்டுப்பாட்டில் வைத்துள்ள அரசுப் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகங்கள் நஷ்டத்தில் இயங்குவதாக ஆட்சியாளர்கள் கூறுவது எத்தனை பெரிய அயோக்கியத்தனம்?

நிர்வாகத்தைச் சீரமைப்பதாகக் கூறி ஆட்சிக்கு வந்த ஜெயலலிதா முதலில் வெட்டிச் செலவுகள், ஓட்டை பஸ்களுக்கு உதிரி பாகங்கள் என்ற பெயரில் அடிக்கப்படும் கொள்ளை, லாபகரமான வழித்தடங்களில் தனியார் பஸ்கள் நன்றாக இயங்க ஒத்துழைப்பு தரும் அயோக்கிய பணியாளர்கள்… இவற்றையெல்லாம் களைந்திருந்தாலே, நிறுவனங்கள் லாபத்துக்குத் திரும்பியிருக்குமே!

இந்த விலை உயர்வு மூலம், வெளிப்பட்டிருப்பது இரண்டு விஷயங்கள்… ஒன்று ஜெயலலிதாவின் நிர்வாகத் திறமையின்மை. இன்னொன்று, அடித்தட்டு, கிராமப்புற மக்களைப் பற்றிய அவரது அக்கறையின்மை!

Petrol in India is More Expensive than 98 Other Countries

With average petrol prices touching historic highs, a plenty of Indians are worried over the cost of filling up. The price of petrol is sky rocketing because of the unrest in the Middle East and rising demand, especially from developing countries.

The purchasing power parity (PPP) is a condition between countries where an amount of money has the same purchasing power in different countries. The prices of the goods between the countries would only reflect the exchange rates. In September the price of petrol per liter was highest in India based on PPP and retail prices in countries across the world shows that Indian prices are amongst the highest in the world at current exchange rates.

Indian government is increasing petrol and diesel price so oil companies will benefit and will suffer less loss on the other hand to reduce the price china is decreasing the oil price. Though we are not able to list out all the 98 here is the few other countries to give a vast idea of how cheap petrol is in other countries. Here are the comparisons with other countries fuel consumption with India based on PPP.

India

Though the pricing of petrol was freed from government controls in June last year, state-owned oil firms informally take directions from the oil ministry. It remains to be seen if the government will concede to the demand of oil companies just before the winter session of Parliament.

The petrol consumption in India dropped from 13.9 percent in 2009-10 to 10.8 percent in 2010-11 due to rising petrol prices. On the other hand consumption of diesel also declined from 8.8 percent in 2009-10 to 6.6 percent in 2010-11. The petrol price based on PPP is $3.95 and diesel price is $2.46.

China

With 1.3 billion people, the People’s Republic of China is the world’s most populous country and the second largest oil consumer, China has been undergoing a process of industrialization and is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

China’s economy since the 1970s has changed from a closed, centrally planned system to a more market-oriented one that plays a major role in the global economy, in 2010 China became the world’s largest exporter. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.95 and diesel price is $1.83.

United Kingdom

The UK has the eleventh highest petrol price in Europe. The petrol price increases do have a substantial effect upon consumption a 10 percent increase in price could reduce consumption by as much as 7 percent. However, with rising incomes in the UK, and falling costs of purchasing and maintaining vehicles, the demand for fuel and road travel continues to grow. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.85 and diesel price is $1.91.

Brazil

Brazil is the 10th largest energy consumer in the world and the largest in South America. At the same time, it is an important oil and gas producer in the region and the world’s second largest ethanol fuel producer.

Brazilian government slashed taxes on gasoline and diesel to offset price increases in a move that could help the central bank hit its 2011 inflation target. The so-called Cide tax will fall to $0.05 per liter. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.70 and diesel price is $1.23.

Japan

Earthquakes usually exact a limited toll on the global economy. The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011 was different, however, as energy markets across the globe felt the impact. Japan is a large player in world energy markets, including petroleum.
In accordance with the two oil crises of the 1970s, Japan made efforts to diversify to other forms of energy resources in order to increase energy security. Japan’s domestic oil consumption dropped slightly, while the country’s use of oil declined its consumption of nuclear power and LNG rose substantially. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.28 and diesel price is $1.09.

Russia

Russia, one of the world’s two energy superpowers, is rich in natural energy resources. It has the largest known natural gas reserves of any state on earth, along with the second largest coal reserves, and the eighth largest oil reserves. Many surrounding countries are dependent on Russian energy.

The fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 caused the Russian oil production to drop by 50 percent. The production is currently growing again. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.26 and diesel price is $1.09.

United States

The United States is the second largest energy consumer in terms of total use in 2010. The U.S. ranks seventh in energy consumption per-capita after Canada and a number of small countries. Energy consumption has increased at a faster rate than energy production over the last fifty years in the U.S. This difference is now largely met through imports.

U.S. consumes 20.8 million barrels of petroleum a day, of which 9 million barrels is motor gasoline. Transportation has the highest consumption rates, accounting for approximately 68.9 percent of the oil used in the United States. The petrol price based on PPP is $0.76 and diesel price is $0.84.

South Africa

South Africa relies heavily on imported crude oil. Domestic sources and available substitutes alone cannot satisfy the country’s current demand, resulting in imported crude oil accounting for over 90 percent of South Africa’s requirements.

South Africa consumed approximately 11.3 billion liters of petrol and 9.1 billion liters of diesel recent years, showing a 2.2 percent increase in petrol and a 6.6 percent decrease in diesel from the previous year. During 2008 there was a 4.2 percent decrease in petrol consumption and a 0.1 percent increase in diesel consumption from 2007. The petrol price based on PPP is $0.23 and diesel price is $0.10.

Ten places in the world you can’t enter..

The world is full of secret and exclusive places that we either don’t know about, or simply couldn’t visit if we wanted to. This list takes a look at ten of the most significant places around the world that are closed to the general public or are virtually impossible for the general public to visit.

1. RAF Menwith Hill

RAF Menwith Hill is a British military base with connections to the global ECHELON spy network. The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site and has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world. The site acts as a ground station for a number of satellites operated by the US National Reconnaissance Office, on behalf of the US National Security Agency, with antennae contained in a large number of highly distinctive white radomes, and is alleged to be an element of the ECHELON system. ECHELON was reportedly created to monitor the military and diplomatic communications of the Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc allies during the Cold War in the early 1960s, but since the end of the Cold War it is believed to search also for hints of terrorist plots, drug dealers’ plans, and political and diplomatic intelligence. It has also been involved in reports of commercial espionage and is believed to filter all telephone and radio communications in the nations which host it – an extreme violation of privacy.

2. Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center

This is a place that is not only closed to the public, but it is a place that the public hope to never have to enter! In most “end of the world” films we see these days, there is always a highly classified area where US government officials and a chosen few get to go in the hopes that they can escape the impending doom. The Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center is the real thing. It was set up in the 1950s due to the cold war but continues to operate today. It is a “last hope” area. For obvious reasons its operations are highly classified. It is run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The center is already functioning and even in small local disasters in the US, much of the telecommunications traffic is routed through it.

3. Ise Grand Shrine

The Ise Grand Shrine in Japan (which is actually a series of over 100 shrines) is the most sacred shrine in Japan. It is dedicated to Amaterasu (the Sun goddess) and has been in existence since 4BC. The main shrine is alleged to hold the most important item in Japan’s imperial history: the Naikū (the mirror from Japanese mythology which eventually ended up in the hands of the first emperors). The shrine is demolished and rebuilt every 20 years in keeping with the Shinto idea of death and rebirth (the next rebuilding will be in 2013). This ranks very high on the list of places you will never go because the only person who can enter is the priest or priestess and he must be a member of the Japanese imperial family. So unless we have a Japanese prince or princess reading the site, no one here will ever see anything more than the thatched roof of the Ise Grand Shrine.

4. Room 39

Room 39 or Bureau 39 is arguably one of the most secretive organizations in North Korea that seeks ways to obtain foreign currency for Kim Jong-il, North Korea’s Chairman of the National Defense Commission. Room 39 was established in the late 1970s. It has been described as the lynchpin of the North’s so-called “court economy” centered on the dynastic Kim family. It is unknown how the name originated. Very little is known about Room 39 due to the secretive nature surrounding the organization, but it is widely speculated that the organization uses 10 to 20 bank accounts in China and Switzerland for the purposes of counterfeiting, money laundering, and other illicit transactions. It is also alleged that Room 39 is involved in drug smuggling and illicit weapon sales. It is known, however, that the organization has 120 foreign trade companies under its jurisdiction and is under the direct control of Kim Jong-il. North Korea has denied taking part in any illegal activities. Room 39 is believed to be located inside a ruling Workers’ Party building in Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea.

5. Area 51

I have put this so high on the list because it is the one place most readers are likely to expect to see. Area 51 is a nickname for a military base that is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of downtown Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large secretive military airfield. The base’s primary purpose is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. The intense secrecy surrounding the base, the very existence of which the U.S. government barely acknowledges, has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore. The sign above states that deadly force can be used if people enter the Area 51 zone.

6. White’s Gentlemen’s Club

White’s is the most exclusive English gentlemen’s club. It was founded in 1693 by Italian Francesco Bianco (Francis White) to sell the newly discovered hot chocolate but eventually became a typical (but extremely private) gentlemen’s club. The club is famous for its “betting book” in which members make bizarre gambles. The most famous of which is a 3,000 pound bet on which of two raindrops would slide down the window first. So why is this club on the list? Women are excluded completely from membership, so that is half our audience out. Secondly, men who want to join this exclusive club can only do so if invited by a sitting member who has the support of two other members. Unless you are a member of royalty, or are extremely powerful in politics or the arts, you are unlikely to ever see the exclusive White’s invitation.

7. Moscow Metro-2

Metro-2 in Moscow, Russia is a purported secret underground metro system which parallels the public Moscow Metro. The system was built supposedly during (or from) the time of Stalin and codenamed D-6 by the KGB. Russian journalists have reported that the existence of Metro-2 is neither confirmed nor denied by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) or the Moscow Metro administration. The length of Metro-2 is rumored to exceed even that of the “civil” (i.e. public) Metro. (It is said to have 4 lines and lie 50 to 200 m deep. It is said to connect the Kremlin with the FSB headquarters, the government airport at Vnukovo-2, and an underground town at Ramenki, in addition to other locations of national importance. Needless to say, the fact that no one confirms its existence makes it pretty difficult to visit.

8. Club 33​

Contrary to popular belief, Disneyland has a full liquor license which is used when the place closes down to the general public to accommodate private parties. But there is one place in Disneyland that is always open to sell booze: Club 33. Club 33 is a private club located in the heart of the New Orleans Square section of Disneyland. Officially maintained as a secret feature of the theme park, the entrance of the club is located next to the Blue Bayou Restaurant at “33 Royal Street” with the entrance recognizable by an ornate address plate with the number 33 engraved on it. Fees for joining range from 10 – 30 thousand US dollars and membership comes with a car park. If you want to join the club, you have to go to the end of the fourteen year waiting list.

9.  Vatican Secret Archives

This has been mentioned on a previous list – the archives are not secret despite their names. You can view any document you wish. But you cannot enter the archive. You must submit your request for a document and it will be supplied to you. Despite the foolishness of the recent junk from Ron Howard​ and Dan Brown​ (Angels and Demons) the documents are all available and there are no copies of suppressed scientific theories or great works that were banned. The only documents you can’t access are those which are not yet 75 years old (in order to protect diplomatic and governmental information). Indexes are available for people who want to see if a document exists in the archives. The Vatican Secret Archives have been estimated to contain 52 miles (84 km) of shelving, and there are 35,000 volumes in the selective catalog alone

10. Mezhgorye

Mezhgorye is a closed town in Russia which is believed to house people working on the highly secret Mount Yamantaw​. The town was founded in 1979. Mount Yamantaw stands at 1,640 metres (5,381 ft) and is the highest mountain in the southern Urals. Along with Kosvinsky Mountain (600 km to the north), it is suspected by the United States of being a large secret nuclear facility and/or bunker. Large excavation projects have been observed by U.S. satellite imagery as recently as the late 1990s, during the time of Boris Yeltsin​’s pro-Western government after the fall of the Soviet Union. Two garrisons, Beloretsk-15 and Beloretsk-16, were built on top of the facility. Repeated U.S. questions have yielded several different responses from the Russian government regarding Mount Yamantaw. They have said it is a mining site, a repository for Russian treasures, a food storage area, and a bunker for leaders in case of nuclear war.

Most Organized Religions In The World

Religion is actually a cultural system which integrates humanity with a pre-determined set of beliefs and values. Sometimes the word “faith” is also used for religion but it differs in a way that faith is used to depict anyone’s private belief and religion refers to public as a whole. Some religions are solely composed of beliefs and there are some which emphasize the need to practice the faith and beliefs. As Jibran Khalil put it “Faith is the knowledge within the heart, beyond the reach of proof.”

Shintoism

The beliefs and practices of the Japanese people are well portrayed by this religion of Shintoism. It actually connects the modern day Japan with that of the ancient one. The spirit of Japan lies in this religion. The interesting fact about this is it has no founder or official scriptures but even then its beliefs are preserved and practiced in true letter and spirit by around 4 million members. Their practices include worship and offerings to kami at shrines and at home. Shinto kami were considered as protectors of Buddhism.

Jainism

This is an Indian religion which began in the sixth century, the same time when Buddhism was developing. It stresses on the need of non-violence and spreads the message of mutual cooperation among the humans. The jinas, after which the name of the religion is assigned, were the spiritual conquerors who achieved liberation. The estimated members of this religion are 4.2 million.

Confucianism

It is a system which is mixture of philosophy and ethics and is prevalent in China. It is the brainchild of a Chinese philosopher, Confucius. This is not circumscribed to ethics and beliefs only but extends to social, political and moral thoughts. The roots of Confucianism are deeply entrenched in China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. It has around 6.3 million followers.

Bahaism

This religion was founded by Mirza Hoseyn ‘Ali Nuri, also known as Baha’ Ullah, in the middle of 19th century in Iran. The followers of this religion believe that Baha ‘Ullah and his forerunner, who was known as the Bab, are the reflection of God. It has around 7 million followers.

Judaism

It is the religion of nation of Hebrews and is a very ancient religion still in existence. The followers of Judaism call themselves as Jews. It has around 14 million followers.

Sikhism

Some of the important elements of Sikhism are belief on one God; the ten Gurus and the teachings of Granth Sahib. It emerges in India at the time when the Hindu-Muslim were enduring a very contentious ambience among themselves. Its founder teacher was Guru Nanak Dev and born in 1469 to a Hindu family. It has around 23 million followers.

Buddhism

I would like to start this by a quotation of Buddha “ Do not dwell in the past, don’t dream of the future, concentrate your mind on the present moment.” Buddha is called the “The Enlightened One” and all followers of this religion believe strongly in meditation. There are primarily two groups in Buddhism; one that concentrate mostly in rituals and the other one who have a propensity towards meditation and ignore rituals. It has around 376 million followers.

Christianity

It is the world’s largest religion with around 2 billion followers. It is more dominant and widespread in Western countries and is the basic of this religion is the faith in Jesus Christ. It was found in the early 1st century A.D. There is a lot about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth in this religion.

 Islam

It is the second largest religion in the world and spreading by thick and fast. The Holy Book of this religion is Quran and it was received by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) at intervals. The Arabic word means “submission” which reflects the core point in this religion of succumbing to the will of God (Allah). The teachings of Islam are mainly banked upon five pillars if Islam; faith, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and alms. It has around 1.5 billion followers.

Hinduism

Hindus call their religion sanatama dharma meaning eternal religion. It was founded in India and there is no founder of this religion. The major sects of this religion are Saivism, Vaisnavism and Saktism. The purpose of life as defined by this religion is to attain liberation from the cycle of reincarnation. It has around 900 million followers.
