Special pink roofed auto for women commuters

In the wake of rising crime against Women in Delhi/NCR region, where thousands of women commuters commute daily from nearby regions, the Gurgaon police has initiated a safety drive for women by launching pink-roofed auto rickshaws plying for women only.

At first stage, 22 pink roofed auto rickshaws have been implied as a pilot project in the city.

Gurgaon Traffic Police Inspector, Anil Kumar, said that the women are often victims of eve-teasing when they are travelling and this service will avert such incidents.

“We have launched this drive for the safety of the women. Women are often mistreated and eve-teased while travelling in an auto-rickshaw. But now they will have separate autos, only for women,” he said.

Last month’s rape of a physiotherapy student on a moving bus in the national capital New Delhi and her death in hospital have triggered unprecedented national outrage and demands for better safety measures in the country.

As a part of this drive, police have identified 22 auto drivers and verified their identification documents, providing them with special identity cards.

“In order to control crime against women, the Haryana police have taken this step. If the administration helps, then this could prove to be very successful. The police have put 22 autos and they have thoroughly verified all of them. If the passenger feels that they are being mistreated by any of the drivers, then they can dial 100 and lodge a complaint,” said Amit Kumar, auto driver.

Gurgaon has a poor public conveyance system and women, especially those without a personal vehicle find the newly introduced auto service a boon.

Ritu Singh, a passenger, said that the service would prove to be beneficial only when the auto drivers do not refuse to ferry the women passengers.

“It is a very good service and facilitates women who are coming from outside and who do not have their personal vehicles. However, the condition is that they should not refuse to take us to our destinations,” she said.

Majority of Indian Women are Single; Why?

The 2011 India‘s census revealed that there are only 940 women for every 1000 men. Though the number is very close margin, it is found that majority of Indian women are single. What is stopping them from mingling or choosing a life partner? Are Indian men hostile beings that they do want to interact with?

Women these days are lot more educated, independent and are assertive. The attitude of women in the last decade has changed exceptionally. They are always on the lookout for the right balance. Neha Mehta is 36, attractive and still single. Neha lives with her parents, has no siblings and stands to inherit a fair fortune from her father. She has received numerous proposals and has even dated a few men, but there isn’t a ring in sight.

“Some men I’ve met were blessed with healthy bank balances, but they also had serious attitude problems to go with these,” she explains. “And men I’ve met who’ve been perfectly amiable and charming wouldn’t be able to support my lifestyle. It’s hard to find the right balance.” As quoted by idiva.

The fast growing economy, the competitive world of the corporates and a constant battle between male counterparts for higher posts have made Indian women put work before marriage. Educated, well focused women prioritize their career over marriage and say that marriage can still wait.

Intellectual, well-read women, after all, now realize that marriage is not a fairy tale. Security of the job has become very important. Some of the other reasons are – Inflated egos and problems to compromise has become a serious issue among women.

Marriage which comes as package with many compromises is not well accepted by women these days and many end up in divorces as well. Some women are turning out to be workaholics as well.
